Quality in the Classroom (Florida)

FLORIDA: Urban Teacher Induction & Retention: Developing Professional Learning Communities

This project is creating an innovative professional development model for classroom teachers faced with challenges unique to urban schools. The effort is implementing model professional learning communities for novice and mentor teachers across three urban high schools to support novice teachers with their induction into the profession. The project also helps prepare new teachers for pre-candidacy with National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and ultimately helps them achieve National Board certification. The grant is being implemented in a pilot group of three urban high schools during the current school year, and project leaders anticipate expanding the effort to other schools across the state in subsequent years of the project.
